These Terms explain what you are buying from The Manuscript Rescue, what I will do, what I will not do, and where you stand if something goes wrong. They are written to be read, not to be impenetrable. If anything here is unclear, email me and ask before you buy.
1. Who you are dealing with
The Manuscript Rescue is the trading name of Wendy Jane Woodcock, a sole trader based in Guernsey, Channel Islands.
Email: hello@themanuscriptrescue.com
In these Terms, “I” and “me” mean The Manuscript Rescue. “You” means the person buying a product or service, or using this website.
2. What these Terms cover
These Terms apply when you buy a Fix Kit, book a service, use one of the free tools on this website, or join the mailing list. How I handle personal information is set out separately in the Privacy Notice and the Cookie Notice.
By placing an order you accept these Terms. If you do not accept them, please do not buy.
3. The Fix Kits
The Fix Kits are digital products, delivered as files you download. Nothing is posted to you.
- Self-Publishing Readiness Fix Kit — 56 fixes across 7 sections, £17
- Self-Publishing Post-Launch Fix Kit — 32 fixes across 5 sections, £17
- The Complete Bundle — both kits, 88 fixes across 12 sections, £27
Payment and delivery. Fix Kit checkout and delivery are handled by Payhip, a third-party platform. When you buy a kit you also enter into Payhip’s own terms at the point of checkout. Payment is taken in pounds sterling. Any sales tax or VAT that applies in your country is calculated and handled by Payhip at checkout.
When you get it. Access to the download is provided immediately after payment is confirmed. If a download link does not reach you, email me and I will send the files directly.
Refunds. Because the kits are delivered instantly and in full, they are not refundable once the download has been accessed. You are buying a document you can read in its entirety within minutes, so please be sure before you buy. If you have not accessed the download, or if a technical fault prevented you from receiving it at all, email me and I will refund you.
This does not affect any legal right you have if the product is not as described. If a kit is not what this website says it is, tell me and I will put it right.
What a kit is, and is not. A Fix Kit is a diagnostic reference document. It identifies problems and tells you how to fix them. It is not a service, it is not personalised to your book, and buying one does not include any consultation time with me.
4. Licence to use the Fix Kits
When you buy a kit you get a personal, non-transferable licence to use it for your own publishing work, including books you publish under your own name or imprint.
You may print it, annotate it and keep it for as long as you like.
You may not resell it, share it, upload it to a file-sharing service or membership site, reproduce it in your own paid or free materials, or use it to deliver a paid service to other authors. If you want to use the material with clients, email me and we will agree terms.
Copyright in the kits, this website and everything on it remains mine.
5. Services
Current services and prices are listed on the Work With Me page. At the time of writing these are: Publishing Clarity Session £95, Manuscript Assessment £350, Essential eBook Package £1,000, Print & Presence Package £2,000, and optional add-ons. Prices on that page apply at the time you book.
Booking and payment. Sessions and assessments are paid in full before they take place. Packages are quoted individually and confirmed by email, with payment terms set out in that quote. A package does not begin until the first payment is received and I have the material I need from you.
Rescheduling and cancellation. You can move a booked session free of charge if you give me at least 48 hours’ notice. Inside 48 hours, or if you do not attend, the session is treated as taken and is not refundable. If I have to move a session, I will offer you a new time or a full refund, whichever you prefer.
Cancelling a package. If you cancel a package after work has started, you are charged for the work completed up to that point and refunded the balance. If I cannot complete a package for any reason, I will refund everything you have paid for work not yet done.
What I need from you. Services depend on you supplying your manuscript, files and decisions in a usable form and in reasonable time. If a project stalls for more than 90 days waiting on material from you, I may close it and invoice for the work done.
6. What I promise, and what I do not
I will do the work described, to a professional standard, using the experience set out on this website.
I cannot promise commercial results. Nobody honestly can. Nothing on this website or in any kit or service is a guarantee of sales, rankings, reviews, royalties, approval by Amazon, or acceptance by any retailer or distributor.
Amazon and Kindle Direct Publishing are operated by Amazon.com, Inc. I am not affiliated with, endorsed by, or acting on behalf of Amazon. KDP’s rules, interfaces and requirements change without notice, and I have no control over its decisions about your account or your book.
Nothing I provide is legal, tax, accounting or financial advice. Where a publishing decision has legal or tax consequences — rights, contracts, defamation, use of real people in a memoir, your tax position on royalties — take advice from someone qualified in your own jurisdiction.
7. Your responsibilities
You confirm that you own or have permission to use everything you send me, including your manuscript, images and cover material, and that publishing it does not infringe anyone else’s rights.
You remain the author and rights holder of your own work. Nothing you send me becomes mine, and I do not claim any interest in your book.
You are responsible for the final decision to publish, and for checking your own book before you do.
8. Free tools and the mailing list
The Risk Assessment, Problem Finder Quiz and Readiness Checklist are free, provided as they are, and calculated in your own browser. They are a starting point, not an audit, and a good score is not a guarantee that nothing is wrong.
You can join the mailing list, and leave it, whenever you like. Every email has an unsubscribe link. What I do with your address is set out in the Privacy Notice.
9. Third parties
This website and business rely on services run by other companies: Payhip for selling and delivering the kits, MailerLite for email, GoDaddy for hosting, and Google Analytics where you have accepted analytics cookies. Their own terms and privacy policies apply to what they do. I choose them carefully but I do not control them.
10. Liability
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits my liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be excluded.
Subject to that, my total liability to you in connection with a product or service is limited to the amount you paid for it.
I am not liable for indirect or consequential loss — for example lost sales, lost royalties, lost profit, or the cost of republishing — arising from your use of a kit, a service, or this website.
11. If something goes wrong
Email me at hello@themanuscriptrescue.com and tell me what has happened. I would far rather fix a problem directly than have you unhappy about it. I aim to reply within two working days.
12. Changes to these Terms
I may update these Terms as the products and services change. The version in force is the one published on this page on the date you buy, and the revision date is shown at the top.
13. Law and jurisdiction
These Terms are governed by the law of the Island of Guernsey, and the courts of Guernsey have jurisdiction over any dispute arising from them.
If you are a consumer resident elsewhere, this does not remove the protections given to you by the mandatory consumer law of the country you live in.
